July 2017 Newsletter
We are now halfway through the Summer Season and what an amazing 6 weeks we have had! Our Titan Teams have attended and won multiple tournaments representing the club with class and a brand of soccer that makes me extremely proud!
Something that stood out for me particularly was the fact that 20 NPSA Titan teams all participated in the Skagit Firecracker Tournament up in Burlington in mid-June. To have this amount of teams at one tournament is something usually associated with the ‘big’ clubs in the State and is a huge statement for our program and our teams!
Another milestone was achieved in late June when our B03 and G01 Navy Bellevue teams participated in the US Club NW Regionals competition in Yakima. This was the first time any Titan team had earned the right to compete at the Regional level as a result of winning State Cup back in May. As is becoming the norm with our Titan teams, just participating wasn’t enough!
Our G01’s stormed through the group stage to make the final against the #1 team in State, ASE Emerald. Unfortunately, they fell at the last hurdle but they did themselves and the club proud with their performances over the course of the tournament.
Our B03’s continued their run of success over the last couple of years adding the Regional title to their growing list of accolades by running through the competition winning every game. This team just keeps getting better and, thanks to this victory, gave our club it’s very first Regional title!
There have been many more summer tournament success stories across our age groups and you can read about these later in the Newsletter! Congratulations to all our Titan teams that have competed in tournaments already this summer and good luck to those that still have them to come!
We have plenty of exciting news to update you on so I will keep my intro short & sweet! Enjoy this month’s edition and thanks as always for all your efforts and support that make our club the best soccer family in the State!
Together Each Achieves More
B03 Navy Bellevue Become Regional Champions
The NPSA B03 Navy Bellevue team continued their amazing run of success by securing the club’s first Regional title at the very first attempt. This team, led by our Director of Coaching Adam Nowland, now holds the PSPL Superleague 1 title, WA State Cup Gold Divison title and the US Club NW Regionals title.
It certainly wasn’t easy with the first game ending in a 2-1 victory against a resolute ISC Gunners ‘A’ team thanks to a brace from NPSA Captain, Dilon Spahia. After spurning multiple chances to score, NPSA went a goal down midway through the second half to a long range strike that nestled in the top corner. This setback seemed to galvanize the NPSA team and, as all good teams do, they raised their level and came from behind to secure the victory.
The second game was against Global Premier Soccer (GPS) from Oregon. The NPSA team made a quick start going two goals up early in the first half through goals from Antheny Leal and Adrian Martinez. GPS were always in the game though and managed to get a goal back with 10 minutes remaining to make it a nervy ending. The NPSA boys were able to hold their lead though to secure another 2-1 victory putting them in pole position going into their final game.
The third and final game was against FPSC Fury and produced 8 goals total, 6 of which were scored by NPSA. It was an open game with both sides looking to attack from the first minute to the last. It was a great way to end the tournament and, with a 6-2 victory, NPSA secured the Regionals title for the first time in the club’s history.
G01 Navy Bellevue Fall At Final Hurdle
The NPSA G01 Navy Bellevue team came so close to emulating our B03’s Regional success but can be extremely proud of their performances against teams currently ranked above them. Every game brought a different challenge for the girls and their Head Coach, Adam Nowland.
Game 1 was against RCL side, Kitsap Alliance, and our girls came out of the blocks quickly making it clear they meant business. Despite the 95+ degree weather, the game was played at a high tempo which suited our Titan ladies more than Kitsap resulting in a 4-0 victory for our girls.
Game 2 saw us pitted against PSPL Superleague 1 team, Spokane Foxes. A much closer affair with both teams playing open and attacking soccer from the first whistle to the last. Again, the Titan ladies had too much firepower for the opposition and came out on top 4-2.
By Game 3, we had already secured our place in the Final which led to a less intense game against Superleague rival, FPSC Fury. The heat also contributed to the game being a much slower pace than the two previous and a 1-1 tie was an acceptable result for both teams.
The final match saw our girls come up against the #1 team in the Region, ASE Emerald. After 3 group games in 3 days and high temperatures all the way through the competition, we just didn’t have enough left in the tank unfortunately. ASE ran out comfortable winners but, for our NPSA ladies, it was a great experience and an awesome achievement to make the final.
B05 Navy Bellevue Rainier Challenge Champions
Congratulations to our B05 Navy team who won the Rainier Challenge this past weekend. It was a huge team effort from the players and Coach Jack. Big shout out to all the parents who gave the boys the great support they needed to bring home the gold!!
The boys faced some adversity starting the tournament with a loss but were able to rally and win their next 2 group games to secure the wildcard spot in the Semi-finals.
After a solid 5-2 victory in the Semi Finals, the B05 Navy team moved onto the Final against local rivals, Eastside FC.
Despite only having 35 minutes between the Semi Final and the Final, the boys showed fantastic spirit to win the game 4-2. It was a dominant performance from start to finish and they thoroughly deserved their victory.
New NPSA Coach
NPSA is happy to announce the addition of our newest staff member Leonard Kusina. Coach Lenny will be primarily working with our B08 age group, as well as assisting with older age groups and working with the NPSA Foundation. Lenny will also be working with our marketing team and will be consulting with the NPSA Swag store.
Lenny played his youth soccer with the Shattuck Academy, one of the most highly respected academies in the country. He then attended Western Washington University where he majored in business and expanded into entrepreneurship. He also played soccer for WWU, playing in many different positions throughout his career. One of Lenny's biggest collegiate moments came in 2013 when he scored the game winner against the 2nd ranked team in the country, Simon Fraser. Lenny also played collegiate soccer with fellow NPSA Coach Keegan Rogers.
Lenny brings a lot of coaching experience to the club as he has worked with the Bellingham Rapids and coached in the WWU ID and Youth Camps. We are fortunate to have him be a part of our staff and if you see him around, please don't hesitate to introduce yourself.
Open Roster Spots
NPSA could not be more excited as we approach the start of Fall season but, as we get closer to kick off, our open roster spots will start to disappear! If you or a friend are looking to join the NPSA family as part of a Fall season team, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are a number of age groups who still have open spots and we want YOU to join our NPSA Titans Program. These spots fill up fast, so don't wait!
NPSA Goalkeeper Union Training Program
Our second Summer training program is quickly approaching! Don't miss your chance to join in on the fun and be a part of our goalkeeper union!
In this training set, our goalkeepers will be training at Chestnut Hill Academy instead of Robinswood Park. Training at Chestnut Hill gives our goalkeepers the opportunity to work on a field specifically tailored for goalkeeper training. With a smaller field, our goalkeepers will be able to work closer together in an environment that will bring out the best in them.
This field also gives our goalkeepers the opportunity to take part in much more energizing and entertaining games such as "Keeper Wars" which is our GK Director's favorite game.

Our Tiny Titans are U5 & U6 and our Junior Titans are U7 & U8. The Fall program consists of two practices per week with their teams plus match days on the weekend. It will run for 8 weeks and be coached by the NPSA professional staff. The program will follow our age appropriate NPSA curriculum and will educate the players in a fun and safe environment.
Our match day format will be 4 v 4 which is in keeping with the recommendation of the US Soccer Federation.
The Tiny & Junior Titan programs are all about learning the game and having fun playing with your friends.

NPSA Swag Coming Soon
Our staff have been working very hard behind the scenes to bring some NPSA Swag to the club. There has been a lot of high demand for NPSA Gear, and we want to start providing our parents and players the opportunity to represent our club everywhere they go.
We are currently working on getting customized gear for our parents and players including hats, socks, scarves, bags, and car decals. As our club continues to grow, so will our merchandising options.
Please be on the lookout for some opportunities to win FREE NPSA Swag over our social media pages. There will also be possibilities of winning NPSA Swag at certain NPSA Events such as the NPSA SKLZ Challenge and through your team coach at trainings.
We will continue to keep you updated on developments as we progress into the Fall season. If you have any inquiries, please reach out to Keenan Butler at email@example.com or Keegan Rogers at firstname.lastname@example.org

College Pathway Update
Back in February, NPSA held an annual College Prep Introduction evening. While this was as much a "kick-off" event as it was an information evening, we laid out our plans for how our college prep program will develop over the course of an academic year and over time.
We are delighted to announce that we have partnered with Paracle Personal Financial Management. Paracle are an exceptional company and are our main and only sponsor for our college prep program. It is down to the generosity of Paracle that we are able to bring our industry leading program to our members, at no cost. As fiduciaries, everything Paracle do is for the benefit of the client. They constantly stay ahead of the curve on educating clients with respect to their individualized pathways. Their focus on education and exemplary customer service is one of the many reasons why our partnership is a perfect fit. If you would like to learn more please click on one of the Paracle logos on this page.
Our NPSA summer 2017 sessions have now been scheduled! During this session you will have access to both Lee Hitchen and Erik Oman each with a combined college coaching experience of over 30 years. We have partnered with Sports Services inc. to let you see what a REAL & PROFESSIONAL video should look like and the opportunity to pursue their services should you choose.

NPSA Foundation Update
The NPSA Foundation has been providing free, professionally-coached soccer training programs to the underserved communities across the Greater Seattle area for just over 2 years. On July 1st, we began the next phase of our mission to provide soccer for all with the launch of the NPSA Vista Soccer Club. This soccer club, like all of our programs before it, is completely free of charge to the families that need it and the first club of it’s kind in the State of Washington.
We have partnered with the Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club and base the program out of their facility in Seattle. Another big supporter is the Seattle Children’s Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic.
We are currently 3 weeks in and the players are having a blast learning the fundamentals of the game with our team of professional coaches led by Fabio Rodrigues. We train the players once a week throughout the summer and then provide an in-house league in the Fall. In addition to this, we have formed 3 teams that will represent the NPSA Vista Soccer Club in the PSPL this Fall Season.
This is a truly remarkable program and very much needed in the community! Player numbers are increasing week on week as the word spreads. We anticipate huge growth over the next 6-12 months and are working hard to raise the necessary funds that will allow us to expand our program in Seattle and other locations in the Greater Seattle area.
If you are interested in volunteering, donating or sponsoring the NPSA Foundation, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
