NPSA Titans June 2017 Newsletter

June 2017 Newsletter

From the Desk of the DOC

Dear Titans,

After a short break, soccer is back and I’m sure you are all as excited about this as our coaching staff are! Giving everyone a chance to recharge their batteries is obviously important but nothing beats getting back out on the field with your team and preparing for a fun but challenging summer program!

The summers are hectic with pre-season training and tournaments coming thick and fast but it is also the perfect opportunity to spend quality time together as a group – players, parents & coaches. It is over the next 12 weeks that your team chemistry is created and bonds are formed that can ultimately last a lifetime! I love to get out on the training field and to the tournaments to watch a variety of our Titan teams across all age groups work hard and perform.

The first opportunity to do this will be on the weekend of June 16-18 for the Skagit Firecracker up in Burlington. There will be 20 NPSA Titan teams representing our club at this tournament which is a fantastic display of strength and commitment from our program and our families! I can’t wait!

Shortly after the Firecracker, our B03 Navy and G01 Navy teams are going to be the first NPSA Titan teams to compete at the US Club Regionals Tournament in Yakima on the weekend of June 24-27. This opportunity came as a result of them winning their respective WA State Cup competitions back at the beginning of May. Now, they have earned the right to compete for the chance to go to Nationals in July which would be a huge achievement for all concerned. Best of luck to both teams and I will update you all on their progress in July’s Newsletter!

There is plenty of news to get through this month so I will keep my introduction short! I hope you enjoy the rest of this newsletter and the start of the new season!!

NPSA Supporting the ICP Turfing Project on Mercer Island

Mercer Island City Council has approved a new turf field on Mercer Island! In late August and into September the grass outfield at Island Crest Park north will be replaced with a shock pad and cork infill as well as a new lighting system and will be ready for this winter season.

Representatives for NPSA have been working with the City of Mercer Island for the past year to secure enough funding for this project.  To date NPSA has directly and indirectly contributed $31,000 to this project through donations from NPSA families, grants from community groups and Utility companies.  All of the sports clubs on Mercer Island have come together to make this project a reality.

In order to complete the project  the City needs our help to secure $25,000 additional funds from the community.  Anyone who would like to donate to the project can donate directly to the city at

Titan XX - Open to all girls teams

Titan XX Season Kick-Off Event

We launched the TITAN XX program last season with the aim to provide our female players the best possible environment for them to develop their skills and passion for the game.  Every female player in our club is automatically part of TITAN XX with the program being directed by NSCAA Instructor & ‘A’ Licensed Coach, Erik Oman.

Since it’s launch back in January of this year, TITAN XX has continued to evolve and we are excited to share how this innovative and groundbreaking program will shape up this coming season at our Season Kick-Off event on Saturday June 10th.

This event will be held at Chesnut Hill Academy and begins at 5:30pm. It is open to all NPSA Female teams which includes G08/9, G07, G06, G05, G04, G02 and G01. Attendance is strongly encouraged. At least one parent should accompany their player. If no one from your family can attend, please notify your coach.

We look forward to seeing you all there on Saturday to help kick-off what will be another fantastic season for our female teams and players!

Center of Excellence

The NPSA Center of Excellence is a technical training program that gives players an opportunity at continual growth outside of their team practices. Erik Oman is an 'A' Licenced Coach, and very few people get the chance to benefit from his knowledge of the game. Erik has designed the COE curriculum and will be overseeing the entire program to ensure players get the most from their on-field education. The COE is all about time on the ball and fun on the field! For registration or more information on the NSPA Center of Excellence, please CLICK HERE!

NPSA Goalkeeper Union

GK Union News

Our NPSA Goalkeeper Union would like to highlight two of our goalkeepers who were fortunate enough to represent the Surf Academy at the Cerritos Memorial Tournament! Jackson Barker (B04 Navy) and Casey Lennon-Jones (B01 Titans) both played integral parts in their respective team’s successes over the tournament weekend.  Jackson and Casey represented NPSA and our GK Union well and made some great saves along the way.

We want to continue the growth and development of our goalkeepers at our club and we are offering a couple of different opportunities for our goalkeepers to do so this summer.  Our NPSA GK Union Training Program is starting up again and there are still plenty of spots available.  Coach Keegan is excited to get back on the pitch with our goalkeepers and incorporate his updated curriculum! If there are families that are travelling and cannot attend the sessions, there will be opportunities for private training to be set up as well.  If you have any inquiries, questions, or concerns, please contact coach Keegan at
