G01s conquer Vegas!

The G01s arrived in Vegas Friday and had their first group stage game Saturday against Forza FC from Utah.  The girls started off strong in the first half, creating several opportunities and even hit the post.   However, the girls couldn't quite pull ahead in the run of play.  The opposing keeper also made some excellent saves and the half ended 0-0.  In the second half, the momentum changed and Forza put on the pressure.  However, the Titan's defense was solid and refused to back down.  After the final whistle, both teams settled for a 0-0 draw.

In the second match of the Vegas Cup, the girls came out with a chip on their shoulder against Celtic Green.  The girls controlled the game and dominated possession from the start.  They were a little disappointed to not a get a result in their first match, and you could see the intensity rising every passing minute.  The first half ended 0-0, but the Titans were peppering the opposition.  The defense continued to hold strong and were disciplined with their challenges.

In the second half, it almost seemed like a repeat of the first.  The girls continued to dominate possession, got a number of shots on target, but still couldn't quite put the finishing touch on their shots.  Despite not getting on the score sheet, the girls secured a 0-0 result.  The game earned them an opportunity to advance to the Semi-finals of the Vegas Cup!

With the way the girls had competed in their opening two matches, their momentum continued to build and their form suggested that the semi final was going to be a big clash against the group B winners Forza JS.  Forza JS had won their opening two matches and were the #1 seed heading into the semi final stage. However, the G01s have never lacked confidence and embraced the challenge.

The game was tense as both teams knew what was at stake.  The girls continued their offensive pressure and they finally made a breakthrough on goal as both Lexi Canales and Caven Baumeister got themselves on the score sheet.  The defensive unit encountered a ton of pressure from Forza and conceded a goal from some excellent play.  However, Forza's pressure wasn't enough, as the Titan's defense held firm as the match ended 2-1 in the favor of the Titans.

The girls earned a chance to compete in the Vegas Cup Finals against a Celtic team that they tied 0-0 in the group stage.  The first match was a great performance from the Titans, but they couldn't put the final touches on their shots to find the back of the net.  With their improved form and their offensive breakthrough from the previous match, the ladies seemed destined to find the back of the net in the final.

Another intense battle ensued and the game certainly lived up to a final's expectations.  The game went back and forth, but the Titans had the advantage and their momentum was carrying.  After a hard fought battle, the ladies got the goal they deserved and put the cup to rest. The final whistle blew and the Titans came out on top 1-0 to take home the Vegas Cup! The winning goal was scored by standout Titans FC player Makena Guenther.

Big shoutout to Coach Adam Nowland and our G01 Navy Titans team for their incredible title run.  The G01s have been working incredibly hard over the last few weeks in preparation of the tournament and their hard work has clearly payed off.  The girls had an absolute blast competing in the sun and showcasing their talents on such a big stage.  We couldn't more proud of their efforts and their accomplishment.  Well done Titans!!!

The ladies will now be gearing up for the PSPL Winter League which will be starting up in the next month.  On to the next title!!!
