NPSA Coaches Represent Surf Academy

During the last weekend of July, our club had the fortunate opportunity to send some our Senior coaches to the Surf Cup and the Lake Oswego Nike Cup with some of the PSPL Surf Academy teams.  Coach Jack had the unique opportunity to travel down to San Diego with the PSPL B03 Surf Academy team.  After the weekend was over, the PSPL Surf B03s won 2 matches and lost 2.  Jack also had the opportunity to work with 3 NPSA players on the squad as they represented our club with the Surf Academy.  Jack said that working with the team and seeing how the NPSA players interacted with the fellow Surf Academy players was a fun experience. "We see these players in training all the time, but to see them step into a different environment and watch them play was a true highlight for me. It was a great experience for them as well." Jack and the B03s showcased their talents well throughout the tournament's entirety.

A little further north, Coach Keenan and Keegan worked at the Lake Oswego Nike Cup in Oregon.  Keegan coached the PSPL G04 Surf team and had a lot of success.  The girls dug themselves a hole in multiple games, but had the resilience to battle back and get some big results.   With only 13 players all weekend playing in the heat, the odds were stacked against them.  It was also a challenge for Keegan as he had only worked with the G04s in one training prior to the tournament. The girls battled their way to compete in the final against a very good Mustang FC squad from Canada.  The girls battled hard, but sadly lost 2-0 in the finals.  It was a great tournament for the girls and a great experience for coach Keegan.

In the same tournament, Coach Keenan worked with the PSPL G02 Surf team. Coming into the tournament, coach Keenan had no prior work with the G02s.  Walking into a tournament with limited knowledge about the team, Keenan had a big challenge pulling the team together to perform well.  However, Keenan did more than just pull the team together.  After the weekend's conclusion, Keenan and the PSPL Surf G02s were crowned Champs!  The tournament was a huge success for Keenan and his team.  The rest of the Surf staff were very proud of what the G02s and Keenan were able to accomplish.   Caven, a member of our G02 Navy team, also accompanied the PSPL G02 team and showcased her talents well and played an integral part in the team's success.

It is a great opportunity for our coaches to branch out and work with other players and coaches around the state of Washington.  It was a tremendous learning opportunity for our staff and we look forward to watching them incorporate some of the experiences they learned from the tournament weekend.  Well done!
