August 2017 Newsletter
This month, I have to start by talking about something other than soccer which is pretty rare! It has been an amazing few weeks for me personally as I became a father for the first time at the end of July! Amalia Marie Nowland arrived on July 31st weighing in at a considerable 9lbs 1oz. Thankfully, my wife, Annie, and Amalia are both doing well and we are excited for what the future holds for our family. We appreciate all the support we have received from our NPSA Family and Amalia is proud to be a Titan!
In related news, I’d like to congratulate Coach Javi and his partner, Belen, on the arrival of their first child also. Naomi Briseis Mendoza Cruz was born on July 15 and weighed in at a healthy 7lbs. We can’t wait to see Naomi supporting her daddy and his teams from the sidelines this Fall Season!
On the field, our Titan teams have continued to progress and perform at various tournaments across the State. We have also had many of our players & coaches representing the PSPL Surf Academy all over the West Coast in top level tournaments. You will hear more about their achievements later in this Newsletter.

Another big step for our program as a whole is our B04 & B03 Navy teams participation in the NW Champions League competition this month! This is the first time that Titan teams have been invited to play in this highly respected tournament and we look forward to seeing how our teams match up against the top teams in the RCL and other States. The games will take place the weekend of August 18-20 at 60 Acres in Redmond. We will keep you all informed on our teams progress over the course of the weekend via Facebook and Instagram.
The summer season is certainly a hectic period but it is the most interesting part of the soccer year for me because it is the time when you start to see our players and teams come together. The work that is put in over the summer pays real dividends when the Fall League Season kicks-off which is just around the corner now!
This Fall Season we have 35 teams competing in the PSPL from 2009 all the way through to 2001. It is truly remarkable how far we have come as a club in less than 4 years and we are still just scratching the surface!

It is crucial that we continue to evolve as an organization hence the addition of several new programs and partnerships that you will learn about later in this Newsletter. Our goal is to provide the best and most well-rounded youth soccer development program in the State and partnerships with SKLZ, Adidas, NSCAA, and now, MVP Sports Performance, ensure that we continue to be the most forward thinking club in the State.
We have multiple new and returning additional training programs kicking-off this Fall so make sure you read on to get all the information about these great opportunities for your players.
I hope you all enjoy this edition of our Newsletter and I look forward to seeing our teams compete in the final few tournaments of the summer and then the Fall League Season!
Together Each Achieves More
NPSA SKLZ Challenge RECAP
The 2017 NPSA SKLZ Challenge was a great experience for both our Development and younger Premier teams. Our staff had a great time putting on this event, and could not have done it without the help of the volunteers, referees, parents, and players that participated.
During this event, we were able to raise money for the NPSA Foundation, gain some valuable experience on the field, and spend time with our amazing community. Words cannot express how proud we are to have such an amazing soccer community surround our club. It is a pleasure working with parents and players who are just as passionate and energized as our staff.
We are very excited to make this event bigger and better next year and to do that we would love to hear about your experience. Please reach out to email@example.com if you have any feedback on this event.
We want to give a big shoutout to Matt Pohle for coming out and filming the event as well. The shots he took of the event were absolutely breathtaking. If you want to see some of the footage from the jamboree and get some more information, please CLICK HERE!
B03 & B04 Navy Bellevue Teams Compete in NWCL
We are fortunate to have two of our NPSA teams representing our club at the Northwest Champions League competition this weekend. This is a great opportunity for our players to play against peak competition and it is something that both teams have earned.
Coach Adam and Coach Keenan have been working very hard to get the boys ready for their matchups this weekend. If you want to get more information about the teams and their schedule for the weekend, please CLICK HERE to get all the details.
G01 Navy Bellevue Add Another Trophy To The Cabinet
After their impressive showing at the NW Regionals back in June, our G01 Navy Bellevue team continued to blaze a trail for all our other Titan XX teams to follow with victory in the Gold Division of the Sounders Cup in July.
Coach Adam and the girls didn’t have it all their own way though. They made a slow start to the group stages and lost their opening game against a good IEYSA Breakers team but got back on track in game #2 with a 3-1 win over Federal Way FC. For their final group game, the girls needed a win to progress and it is in these high pressure situations that our G01 Titans step up and this occasion was no exception. They came out of blocks quickly against Spokane Foxes and established a 3-0 lead early in the first half. The girls managed to see the game out to secure their place in the final against FC Portland.
The final was a tight game with a single goal coming in the opening 5 minutes of the first half from Caven Baumeister securing victory for the Titans! This was a nice way to end the summer tournament season for our G01’s as their League Season kicks-off on Aug 12th with their debut in the WNPL Division.
Well done to the team and Coach Adam on a successful summer and good luck in Fall Season!
B01 Bellevue Make Rush Cup Final
It has been an eventful summer for our B01 age group with multiple tournaments bringing some success but also some humbling defeats. This is all part of the development process and I am sure the players have benefitted as a result of the challenges they have faced against high level opposition.
After a difficult time at the Rainier Challenge at the end of June, our ’01 boys got back to business at the Rush Cup with some dominating performances and quality soccer that was pleasing on the eye. The boys, under the guidance of Coaches Adam and Javi, stormed through the group stages with 6-1 and 4-1 victories in the first two games and then a 1-1 tie in the third to top the group and progress to the final.
In the final, the opposition was a fellow PSPL team in Eclipse and it was a highly competitive game from start to finish. Unlike the previous 3 games of the tournament, our boys started slow and gave up 2 goals early to give themselves a mountain to climb. And also unlike the previous games, the ball just wouldn’t go in no matter how hard our boys tried. The end result was a 2-0 defeat but the overall performance level of the team bodes well for their upcoming Fall League Season kick-off.
Here at NPSA, we value performance and development over winning so the boys can be proud of their displays in the Rush Cup and know that good things will come if they continue to apply themselves and maintain the high standards of soccer they set in this tournament.
NPSA Shows Well Again For The PSPL Surf Academy
In the month of July, the PSPL Surf Academy teams attended multiple tournaments across the US and had some great success against some of the best teams in the nation. Our NPSA players and coaches participated in these competitions and represented our program with distinction.
At the Nike Cup in Lake Oswego, our very own Coach Keenan led the G02 team to victory with the help of NPSA player, Caven Baumeister. At the same time over in San Diego, Kat Wolfe from our G02 Navy Bellevue team played her part in the other G02 Academy team winning the Surf Cup which is viewed by many as the ‘Best of the Best’ tournament in the United States.
Coach Adam’s B02 Academy team secured the Nike Cup title with 5 wins out of 5 which included a 1-0 win in the final against the Spokane Sounders. NPSA players, Nick Commons, Kai Sharp and Slone Sasouvanh, all played their part in the team’s success in Oregon.
Coach Jack works alongside Coach Adam on the B03 Academy team and, in Coach Adam’s absence, led the B03’s to some impressive results at Surf Cup. The team recorded victories over LA Galaxy and San Diego Surf but narrowly missed out on making the finals unfortunately. Still, a very good showing by Coach Jack and the boys. NPSA players, Ibrahim Burka and Dexter Shack, made significant contributions to the team’s success.
Also at Surf Cup, our NPSA G04 stand-out, Valentina Larrondo, played her part for the Academy G04 team as they went 2-1-1 to miss out on progression to the finals.
The PSPL Surf Academy is a program that NPSA supports as it gives our players access to higher level tournaments across the nation as well as exposure to College coaches. The tryouts for next year are coming up in December and are open to players U12 and above. If you are interested in this opportunity for your player and want to learn more, please reach out to our Programs Director, Keenan Butler, at firstname.lastname@example.org
